I would like to describe Rio to those who may never see him—never know him,  touch him, or experience his incredible presence and energy. His beauty and stunning size are things hard to describe in words. Words all just seem to come up short of who he really is.

As I sit and reflect on my first year with this incredible canine, I feel a sense of awe and wonder and a very definite feeling of admiration and just plain ol' luck to have him. The  love we share breaks all human/canine barriers. I know him and he lives so we can spend our lives together. And you know, everyday I can't wait to do something with Rio! He is sensitive to my words—he hears the reflections in my voice and is so responsive and willing to please.

He often sets aside his canine drive to please his human friend. This touches my heart profoundly. Here's an example. Today is January 10. We went for a long walk together. On our walk we pass up two ponds and the water runs forcefully under the semi-frozen surface of the pond. Rio is thirsty and runs to the pond for water, his tongue dragging, and I can see his anticipation to taste the cool water. The edge is softly frozen to about 10 feet out and I do not want him to go onto the dangerous "ice" an get caught in the freezing waters as I would not be able to save him from this disaster. So, I call to him, "Rio... Wait." He immediately stops and turns looking at me with a question mark on his face. I say, "Let's go, Leave It", and he comes to me raising his paw, which means "please". I tell him softly, "No, Let's go," and he cheerfully agrees, passing up the water and heads for home with me.

I wish I could tell him about the danger that I am seeking to save him from. I wish I could explain somehow why I denied him a drink! But still he blindly obeys and trusts me with all his heart. It's this trust that makes me admire him and love him so tremendously. That is who Rio is on the inside.

Now I would like to describe Rio on the outside. He is a large, thick boned, very structurally correct dog. His back is strong and solid. He is powerful. He likes to trot along with me as I ride a 4-Wheeler from destination to destination on the farm doing my work. He can trot for long distances and does not easily tire. As he trots he looks over at me from time to time with the biggest ear to ear smile—he is a happy dog and has a great sense of humor. Rio has a large square head with a short muzzle. His legs are straight, thick and well muscled. His feet are tight and square, his hair is shiny with no wave in it at all, his colors are sharp and distinct, and the Mahoghany against the white is strikingly beautiful.

Rio carries himself with confidence and is not easily intimidated. He is confident and pleasant. He does not drool and is healthy and vibrant. Rio is a stellar looking dog and is the epitome of Bernerhood. We could not be more pleased to introduce Rio to you as our new Stud Dog.

We want to give a Very Big Special Thank You to Patricia Moore of Canada for sending us such an Awesome Dog!
